Portland Woman Killed In Benton Rollover
An 80-year-old Portland woman died when her vehicle rolled over on the interstate in Benton.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened at around 5:30 Monday afternoon. A vehicle driven by Mary Ricci veered off the road at mile 136 into the median. The car struck a ledge causing it to become airborne and flipping over three times before coming to rest on its roof. Ricci was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash but say a medical event may have preceded the car leaving the road. Assisting at the scene were the Fairfield Fire Department, Clinton Police, and Maine Department of Transportation.
