Police Standoff In Fort Kent Ends Peacefully
A Fort Kent man is in custody after forcing his way into a woman's residence with a weapon and harming himself.
WABI-TV reports Fort Kent police responded to a 911 call from a home on the Aroostook Road at about 5:00 Friday night. A woman was in distress and told police that she feared for her life.
Police say the victim's estranged boyfriend, 60-year-old Gary Theriault had made his way into the woman's house and harmed himself. The Aroostook County Sheriff's Department and the Maine State Police were called in and a standoff situation ensued.
After four hours, Theriault exited the house unharmed, and no one else was hurt, although there were threats made during the standoff. He's charged with Violation of Conviction and Release, Terrorizing, and Creating a Standoff. He had also been arrested a few weeks ago for Domestic Violence.
