Police are now saying a woman whose body was found in an Augusta apartment building may have died several weeks ago.

Police on Wednesday identified the body as likely that of Joan Hadley, 54, formerly from Windsor. Police say, of late, the woman has been a transient staying in and around Augusta.

No immediate cause of death has been determined and additional testing will take place. There were no obvious signs of foul play and death likely took place in the past two weeks, according to police. Detectives tracked down the man who rents the apartment and he confirmed that Hadley had his permission to stay there while he was staying elsewhere.

Investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office, to determine cause and date of death. The death is considered suspicious, but officials say that's common for all unattended deaths until it's determined how the person died.

Her body was removed at noon on Tuesday, after police were alerted to the death at around 9:30 in the morning.
