Investigators with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office say a female inmate was found unresponsive at the jail on Monday.

UPDATE: The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office has identified the inmate as 33-year-old Klarissa Nye of Bangor. The case remains under investigation. 

The woman's body was found at approximately 1:45 Monday afternoon, in the lavatory of a cell block. Bangor Fire Department was called in to assist on-duty medical staff but, despite their best efforts, the woman could not be revived. So far, officials have not released the woman's name, but say that she was 33-years-old and had been brought to the jail by Bangor Police on January 17th. She was taken into custody on three failure to appear warrants and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

So far, investigators are treating the woman's death as a suicide. The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department is following the Department of Corrections' protocol and its own policies and procedures for investigating the death.
