It seems we hear it and read it all the time. The message is simple. Don't drink and drive. Well, I'm here to say it again, after a drunk driver nearly took a member of my family.  It was one of those "wrong place, wrong time" situations that could happen to any of us.

My Florida cousin Annette needed a ride home one evening, so she asked a friend if he could give her a ride in his pickup. They were both sober when they hopped into his Dodge Ram and headed out. Unfortunately, the man they met on the road wasn't. He was driving a large truck belonging to the company he worked for. Annette and her friend were lucky. They suffered multiple broken bones, including both of Annette's legs and her friend's pelvis...but they're alive.

The man that hit them was unhurt.

So I'll say it again. Please...DON'T drink and drive! Take a cab. Get a ride with a friend. And if you see someone who is impaired, don't let them drive. The life you save could be your own...or someone who was just trying to get home to their family
