Plane Carrying an Emergency Patient, EMT Crashes in Vinalhaven
A plane carrying an emergency patient and an emergency medical technician went down in Vinalhaven.
The Penobscot Island Air Cessna 207 was attempting to take off from the Vinalhaven airstrip on Friday evening, when it crashed. The details of the crash have not been released, but no one was seriously injured.
According to the Courier-Gazette, the plane was carrying the pilot, as well as an emergency patient and Vinalhaven EMT, on the way to a hospital. A Knox County Sheriff's Deputy, as well as Vinalhaven Fire and EMS personnel were already on the scene, for a different call, and were able to attend to the people from the plane quickly. They cleared the occupants from the plane and minimized any fuel leaks.
The crash has been reported to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, and remains under investigation.
