Pennsylvania Man is Maine’s 8th Snowmobile Fatality of Season
A Pennsylvania man died as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in Mapleton on Wednesday.
Wardens says the accident happened at about 4:00 Wednesday afternoon, on ITS 105, near Pulcifur Road. David Over, 25, was traveling with a group of nine other snowmobilers from Pennsylvania when he passed the two sleds in front of him. Over and another driver began riding side by side, at a high rate of speed, when the two sleds made contact. Wardens say the crash investigation initially suggests that the Sligo, PA man over-corrected, veered to the left, and hit a tree when he was ejected from the snowmobile.
Game Wardens and EMTs performed CPR at the scene, in attempts to save Over, who was then taken by ambulance to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle. He later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation. This is the state's 8th snowmobile-related fatality this season.
