Police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old woman from Pembroke.

Paula Johnson was found dead at around 5:30 PM Wednesday, at a home at 515 Leighton Point Road in the Washington County town.

Authorities had been called to the residence after someone reported the presence of an unresponsive female. According to Department of Public Safety Spokesperson, Shannon Moss:

"When deputies arrived, the female was discovered deceased and the circumstances were suspicious. Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team responded to the residence to continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.  The victim was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed on Thursday, February 10, 2022.."

The Office of the State Medical Examiner later identified the body as Johnson's and ruled her death a homicide.

Maine State Police are asking for the public's help. Authorities are requesting anyone who may have witnessed any strange or unusual activity recently, in the area of the Leighton Point Road, or anyone with any information that may be helpful to the case, call the State Police dispatch in Bangor at 973-3700 and leave a message for Detective Adam Bell.
