A busy section of I-395 will be shut down while crews replace a 57-year-old bridge next month.

During a news conference at Bangor City Hall on Tuesday, officials from the Maine Department of Transportation announced plans to replace the bridge that passes over Webster Ave. near Bangor Municipal Golf Course, reports the Bangor Daily News.

The road will be closed between Exits 1 and 2 starting either May 6, 13 or 20. The road will shut down at 8 p.m. and reopen at 7 a.m. the following Tuesday.

S.E. MacMillan Co., the contractor, will select a start date based on weather conditions and notify DOT officials on the Tuesday before construction begins.

While the bridge is being replaced, drivers on I-95 who want to travel east on 395 will take Exit 180 to Coldbrook Road and then take Route 202 to I-395.

Drivers trying to get from I-395 to I-95 will take Exit 2 to Route 202 and then take Coldbrook Road to I-95.

DOT officials say the bridge work is unrelated to the I-395 paving protect that will take place this summer.
