Anglers are invited to take part in an open water fishing derby next month that will benefit the MSG Gary Gordon Veteran Center in Lincoln.

Fishing is a passion of mine, so I was happy to pass the word along about this benefit derby that supports the good works of the Veteran Center. The derby will be held on July 22nd on several waterways. Fishing areas include Big and Small Cold Stream Lakes/Pond at the Fish Hatchery Landing, Caribou, Egg Pond, Long Pond, Stump Pond, Folsom Pond, the Penobscot River, and Mattanawcook Lake. Competition runs form 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with weigh-in from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at designated locations.

Those locations, along with a complete list of rules and guidelines will be available at registration. Folks can pre-register at the Veteran Center, 118 Main Street, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The entrance fee is $80 for two persons per boat, $40 per person, and $30 per veteran.

Of course, every good derby has prizes, and this is no exception! Those prizes include $300 for the Largest Bass (small or large-mouth), $300 for the Largest Salmon, and $300 for the Largest Trout! Food and beverages will be available for purchase, including a lunch special that includes a hot dog, bag of chips, and drink for $4.

All participants must abide by the laws and regulations as defined by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. All the proceeds from the event will benefit the MSG Gary Gordon Veteran Center.
