OHI Food Drive for Brewer Food Pantry on Saturday
OHI will be collecting food and financial donations on Saturday, to benefit the Brewer Food Pantry.
It's been a tough summer for Maine's food pantries, as donations have gone down, while the need has increased. Food pantries rely on things like food drives in schools and businesses to keep their shelves stocked, but those just aren't happening this year. Add in the fact that so many people have been out of work, and so they can't afford to donate like they usually do. And just to make things more challenging, even more people are visiting the pantries, because they're out of work and are in need. Many of these folks have never been food insecure before. It's hard enough to walk up to a food pantry for the first time. Think how much worse it would be to find out they're out of food. Now what? The food pantries want to be there for folks in need, but they can't without your help.
So, an organization in Brewer is doing their part. OHI will have a bus in the Brewer Hannaford parking lot this Saturday, and they hope you'll stop by between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to donate. Volunteers will be taking non-perishable food items, like canned goods, pasta, potted meats, and the like, and they'll also be accepting cash donations. All those proceeds will stay in the community at the Brewer Food Pantry. They're hoping to fill the pantry shelves, but they need your help. You know, at some point, you're going to run to Hannaford this weekend, or maybe just drive by the parking lot on Wilson Street. Take a few minutes to drop by and make a donation. They'll appreciate it, and so will the people whose next meal you helped to provide.
According to their website, OHI offers resources to people with disabilities to help them make life choices and set their own goals. It's a Maine-based non-profit that helps make life better for residents in a variety of ways. And now, they're going to be helping to feed the area's food insecure. Stop by on Saturday and help them Fill the Bus.
