NY Man, on the Run for 2 Years, Nabbed in Maine on Drug Charges
A New York man, with outstanding warrants for weapons charges in his home state, was arrested in Maine for allegedly trafficking in crack cocaine.
During a traffic stop on Sunday, Maine State Police encountered 26-year-old Edwin Rodriguez and 23-year-old Sarah Ortiz, both of Yonkers, New York. Rodriguez is the subject of active Federal arrest warrants related to weapons offenses, was on parole, and had been on the run for 2 years. He was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, and investigators say there was ample evidence to confirm he had come to Maine for the sole purpose of selling the drugs. Rodriguez was charged with unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs and taken to the Kennebec County Jail, where bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Ortiz was arrested for refusing to submit to arrest or detention, after she became physically resistive during the incident.
State Police Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Augusta Police Department.
