The NFL on Monday handed down its punishment in the wake of the Deflategate controversy.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was suspended for four games without pay and the team was fined $1 million after an independent report found the quarterback and Super Bowl MVP likely knew the balls used in the AFC Championship were under-inflated.

The league found Brady violated the NFL policy on the "integrity of the game." Brady has the right to appeal the suspension, and Brady's agent said Monday night he would appeal.

The Patriots also will forfeit a 2016 first-round selection and 2017 fourth-round selection in the NFL Draft.
