Today is the last Friday of the month, and the first Fridays of the month are always special in Downtown Bangor. So next Friday is the August edition of First Friday.

First Fridays are coordinated by Downtown Bangor Partnership, and Executive Director Betsy Lundy says:

"First Fridays in Downtown Bangor is an opportunity for restaurants, stores, arts and culture organizations, and service related businesses to showcase what they do. Downtown Bangor is home to over 400 businesses and organizations and over 1000 residents and we wanted to create a monthly opportunity for people to come down and get a taste of what is available here"

Bangor Pride Downtown Art Walk is the event theme for Friday, August 6th.

"Downtown Bangor is excited to host the Maine Health Equity Alliance Pride Art Walk in Downtown Bangor. Downtown Bangor remains committed to ensuring the downtown feels safe and welcoming to our LGBTQ+ community and welcomes programming that fosters that environment."

The celebration in historic downtown Bangor includes shopping and dining and more shopping and a chance to participate in activities, to see art, listen to music, and not have to rush home because it is a Friday night.

There are dozens and dozens of stores and restaurants and bars participating to make the night a special one. And special for the whole family, with family-friendly activities like face painting and sidewalk chalk drawing, goodie bags for kids to take home, and even a community canvas that your kids can paint on.

Kids will also be able to design a new Maine animal. Yeah, another way to learn something disguised as fun. Learn about Maine animals and where they live and then the kids will let their imagination run wild as they design their own animal.

Back to the adult stuff. There will be a variety of places hosting bands. Nothing like music to relax with and get a great start to a weekend.  Be proud, Bangor.
