A New York man died when his car collided with a Freightliner truck in Chester Thursday night.

Christian Dow, 51, of Middletown, NY, was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe south on South Chester Road at about 8:15 p.m., when he failed to stop at an intersection and crossed in front of the westbound truck, according to police.

The truck's driver, Jeison Arcos, 41, of Newark, NJ, attempted to avoid the collision, but the front of his truck crashed into the driver’s side of Dow’s vehicle and overturned.

Dow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arcos was taken by helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. A passenger in the truck was treated for minor injuries at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln.

Dow was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
