New Website Can Help You Plan A Maine Snowmobile Trip
Planning a snowmobile trip through Maine just became a lot easier, thanks to a new website that offers a variety of information.
My snowmobile experiences, so far, have been limited to a once-a-year charity ride on a donated sled. But I know people who are snowmobile enthusiasts, and I've heard them talk about some of their treks that have involved several days of riding, while staying at local hotels. It sounds like so much fun, spending an entire weekend exploring the Maine woods with a group of friends. But it also sounds like it would take some planning, so you know where you're going, and where you're spending the night.
That's where this new website would be invaluable. SledTRX has a map of snowmobile trails in Maine, so you can trace your route ahead of time. It also lists resources that are in proximity to those trails, like restaurants and lodgings. Gas station information is included, along with Maine snowmobile clubs, and sled shops. There's also a SledTRX Facebook page, where you can share pictures of your snowmobile adventures.
The site was just recently launched by a Thomas College student, Jake Warn. I'm guessing that, as time goes by, more and more information will be included, as business owners contact him to have their establishments' details posted. It's a great tool for the snowmobile riders, but also for those businesses to get the word out to them.
Remember, the Maine Warden Service advises snowmobile riders to let someone know their trip plans, in advance of heading out on even the shortest ride. Then, if something happens and the riders get stranded, searchers will have a general idea of where to look for them.
