There's a new shop in downtown Bangor that aims to help you relive your glory days...or at the very least take you back a minute.

White Lobster is the brainchild of Bangor resident Chris Bryant. Bryant grew up in Waldo County but moved to Bangor more than a decade ago. He says both his parents and grandparents were antique dealers, so nostalgia is in his blood.

"I've always had the idea that old goods and things that are old and made to last are different. I've been into vintage clothing and sneakers for the better part of 3 or 4 years now."

"My thing was I like shirts. I like band tees and concert tees. I love wrestling, like 90s wrestling. I have a great 90s wrestling collection in store."

White Lobster opened just a couple of months ago, but Bryant has been working the biz, so to speak, for a few years now.

Selling his stuff mostly online on sites like eBay, Bryant started to outgrow the tiny showroom he'd put together in his home's utility room until his merchandise started to creep out into other rooms in his house, and his wife suggested he find a better spot, Downtown, to showcase his treasures.

"Finally I found a great place on Harlow St. I like downtown, you know, it's a cool spot.  I'm having a great time doing it."

"A lot of people are wearing things that are unique and have a nostalgia hit. "

Bryant says his background as a former geneticist, and  Science teacher at Mattanawcook Academy and Bangor High influenced his interest in the world of thrifting clothes.

"I used to teach biology at Bangor High School. I was a science teacher, so that's where the [awareness of] sustainability kind of comes from and the idea of eco-friendly and anti-fast fashion might stem from."

"I think downtown, you know, it's coming back. There's been a little influx of stores...you know "Nest" just opened up across the road and that's good for us. And there's another couple of workspaces that opened up above "Bagle Central" and "11 Central". There are more stores coming. I like downtown. It's a vibe."

"Things with hype, things with resale value, things that you can't get anywhere; you know, we work hard to source with people online, the apps and eBay to try to procure them for a low price so we can still make a margin."

Bryant says the White Lobster shop buys, sells, and trades in nostalgia...and cool kicks. It's kind of split in two.

"Half the store is hype sneakers, Jordans, Nikes, Yeezys, that sort of thing...It's sneakers that honestly, north or Portland, you just, there's no place to get. And we have full runs from little tiny size 2 for babies, all the way up to size 15s."

"And we do have a pretty good selection of used shoes, too, that people have brought in and we've been able to buy low and put up for a pretty good price."

"And the other half of the store is kind of my true love: 1990s and 80s vintage clothing."

"I've got everything in here from an Animal Muppets Tee to Queensryche allover print to White Zombie."

For those who remember the hype surrounding the 90's UMaine's Men's Hockey Team under Shawn Walsh, there's an entire section of stuff that will bring you right back to that heyday.

"Lots of 1990 UMaine Championship tees and sweatshirts."

But the UMaine Black Bears are the only team Bryant has represented in his shop.

He's also got some items from when the Portland SeaDogs were the Marlins.

And if you're a Nascar fan...

"Ricky Craven came in, and we showed him our 'Ricky Craven' selection."

"It was kind of cool to hang out with him and reminisce with our Nascar legend from our state here."

And those who were fans of "Old School" wrestling...

Bryant's got you covered, too.

"It's a pretty wide selection of nostalgia and cool pieces that you just can't find."

"I got to thrift stores every day. I go to thrift stores all over the state. I'm constantly shopping and scouring the internet online and making deals with friends to get the coolest things in store that I can get. "

Bryant says he had pretty good success with local people just swinging in with totes, looking to share in some of that nostalgia.

Bryant is only open a few days at the tail end of the week.

"Out in L.A. and out in New York City, vintage fashion is definitely kind of at the forefront of things; having unique things that no one else has, that are sustainably sourced, that don't put an environmental strain on production costs, aren't fast fashion. It's trendy and it's something we're getting up here, but we're a little slow. But it's coming."

Welcome to town, White Lobster. Good luck.
