Assume that most of us have some kind of health insurance, and most of us are relatively healthy.

Imagine being diagnosed with cancer. But because of other underlying medical conditions, you are not able to receive traditional treatments. And insurance doesn’t cover the alternative treatment costs.

Meet Devan Demmons.

Devan Demmons is Mrs Maine International 2019.

Devan has been fighting cancer, but because of other underlying medical conditions, she is not able to receive traditional treatment.

She lives in Carmel with her husband Kevin and her two service dogs, Duke and Bruni.

You may know Devan and her dogs from Mossy Ledge Spirits where she helps out.

Much of her life and her husband Kevin’s life is focused on fundraising, which is much needed as you might well imagine.

This Sunday the 11th there will be a benefit lunch and auction for Devan.

All money raised will help cover costs for cancer treatment that is not covered by her insurance.

The lunch will be held at the Etna Town Hall, 17 Shadow Lane in Etna from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come hungry for a spaghetti dinner (hamburger optional) with garlic bread and garlic green beans, desserts, and beverages.

The suggested lunch donation is $10 per person.

Also at the event a silent auction and a chance auction. Tickets for the chance auction are $1 a ticket or 30 for $20. Load up on those tickets and put them in the bucket for the item you want to win.

And visit Devan’s craft table and the Mary Kay Table. You do not have to take part in the lunch to visit the auctions and tables.

This is when the community comes together and, well, is a community. Hope you can make it.

Watch for other fund-raising events as they happen or if you are inclined to contribute here is the link to a Go Fund Me page for Devan.

Also to benefit the cause Mossy Lodge Spirits is holding a bottle donation drive. Bottles can be dropped off during regular tasting hours. Friday 4 to 8 pm, Saturday 2 to 8 pm or Sunday 1 to 5 pm.  Mossy Lodge Spirits is in Etna at 1097 Lakins Road.
