Mount View High School in Thorndike was placed on lockdown Thursday after administrators reported finding a note that "communicated a potential threat."

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school at 2:30 p.m. after the note was discovered in a bathroom, Superintendent Paul Austin said Thursday.

Students were released when deputies arrived, and all after school activities were cancelled.

The sheriff's office and school district officials are investigating the threat.

"At this point, we do not believe that any student or staff is in danger," Austin said.

Austin said classes and activities are scheduled resume Friday.
