It's no secret at this point that I got a new dog this year. The whole experience is totally new to me. We had a couple cats when I was a kid, but I was never particularly close to either one of them. I liked them just fine, but for the most part, I never really gave them a second thought.

But now, for the first time in my adult life, I have a pet. And despite the overused analogy, it's the closest thing I've ever had to a kid. My wife and I never had kids of our own, so I'm sort of getting the whole enchilada in one shot. All my adult responsibility seems to rest on this one dog.

But I love my boy Neko to death. With every fiber of my being. Just like most pet owners. And as much as I hate to think of what my life will ever be like without him, he will someday have to leave this mortal coil, just like the rest of us. So, what so you do for your pet when their time comes?

Recently, my nephew's cat passed, and we buried her in a nice spot out to camp. But what if something like that isn't an option for you? Maybe you live in an apartment or whatever. According to WABI, Mount Hope Cemetery is now setting aside an area just for burying our beloved pets.

In addition to this area, they will also be offering a new spot called the "whole-family" area, where you can buried with next to your passed pets. Current cemetery rules don't allow this in the regular sections of the cemetery. This is also believed to be the first official pet cemetery in the state.

Obviously, we're hoping there's no Stephen King action in this particular spot, but I think it's fantastic that there's an option like this. I have to admit, as I'm writing this, it makes me want to get a plot for my wife, myself, and our little Neko. Nothing would make me happier than being with the both of them forever.
