Saying that folks up here in 'Vacationland' like their alcohol would be an understatement. We love it, and we’re very particular about our favorites—what we drink, how we drink it, and when the occasion calls for it.

So, how do we determine what’s considered the most popular liquor in Maine or across the country? What criteria are being used?

Upgraded Points analyzed Google Trends data from February 2021 to February 2022 to find the most popular liquor in each U.S. state. They used 150 keywords, including liquor types, popular brands, and celebrity-owned brands, sourced from Vine Pair, The Spirits Business, and Esquire.

Now that we’ve established that, which liquor do Mainers reach for most frequently on the shelves?

According to research from Upgraded Points on ‘The Most Popular Liquor in Every U.S. State,’ vodka is Maine’s favorite liquor and the top choice in 15 states overall. However, whiskey takes the top spot in the most states, ranking #1 in 18 states total.

While the numbers give us a good starting point, they don’t necessarily prove that vodka is Maine’s absolute favorite liquor.

Plenty of Mainers love their whiskey, rum, and gin, and local favorites like Fireball and Allen’s Coffee Brandy are also top choices across our state!

Well, there you have it—vodka is the most popular liquor in Maine, while whiskey takes the top spot nationwide.
