Hold on a minute. This is America. We love our country and one of the major reasons is the freedom of choice. So, let's allow differences of opinion to not escalate, and just celebrate the day.

Choice of pizza toppings falls under that Freedom umbrella too.

That’s why today on National Pizza Day in America our poll about only having one topping on a pizza is just that.  A silly online poll.

I know, I know you expect a scientific poll when it comes to the subject of what is going on your pizza.

The question on social media was

You can choose only one pizza topping for the rest of your life. What will it be?

Obviously, that’s not going to happen.  Pick as many toppings for your pizza as you like.

And same with the flip side of that question.

I refuse to eat pizza if it has THIS on top.

Those are pretty strong words. We are just trying to find out what you like and don't like on pizza. So here we go with the results of the questions we asked.

And be ready for a lot of the same items to be in both love/hate countdowns.

First, we look at the Top 5 Don’t Put This on My Pizza or it’ll Be Trouble with A Capital T.

Yes, Meat at #5.

But to be fair, and keep this scientific, it was a combination of votes where people said meat, bacon, sausage, pepperoni, and liver.  Liver?  Who has ever had liver on a pizza?

Other items that got votes, but didn’t hit the Top 5 of the list that they didn’t want to be on anyway include oion and spinach.  Both those also make that must have first choice list coming up.

On with the countdown. That’s a quote from Kix Brooks.

At #4

Vegas odds probably had this item higher on the no thank you list than we in Eastern Maine voted it.

Pineapple on Pizza has very few people who don’t have an opinion. No fence-sitters.  We’re for or against it.

Item #3 that ruins pizza according to the survey

Mushrooms almost made the must-have Top 5 too.

Quick question before we proceed.  Are the mushrooms that you believe ruin a pizza canned or fresh? They are two totally different animals. Or totally different fungi.

Our countdown on the items you can’t stomach on a pizza rolls on.

#2 Olives

And once again olives also got votes for a favorite item on a pizza too.  And speaking of 2, some cited green olives, some black olives. And isn’t there a difference between the two?

Here’s #1. The item more people answered is Anchovies.

Aren’t anchovies one of those items that people who have never ever tried them say ‘"Oh no, I don’t like those?" And the photo might be why.

There is nothing fishy about our poll.

Next.

The social media post said

You can choose only one pizza topping for the rest of your life. What will it be?

There were dozens of items chosen. Items like spinach, olives, tomatoes, onions, pickles. Pickles? Yes.  And mushrooms, ham, chicken, and sausage were picked as favorites, but they didn’t make the Top 5.

Number 5

Is actually a Tie for #4.

Surprise.  Here’s Pineapple again.

More cheese, please. Extra cheese if you please is the answer.

Bacon makes any leftover pizza taste great the next morning too.

Hmmm, what is left?

And anybody not figured out the #1 most popular pizza topping

Overwhelmingly #1 as well. It’s pepperoni by a landslide.

And since this is America, let’s all remember we get to celebrate National Pizza Day with whatever toppings we want. So there.

Thanks for the input Eastern Maine. Enjoy your slice today. No matter where you go to get it.
