A large moose caused three separate accidents on I-95 in Howland Wednesday night.

The chain of events started when the 1,000+ pound moose ran out in front of a car and was struck. The animal landed on the roof before falling back into the road, where it was struck by a second vehicle. That car went airborne and flipped over, trapping the driver inside. State Police told WABI-TV that, at this point, the moose was in one lane and the overturned car was in the other. When a third driver came upon the crash site, they drove into the ditch to avoid a collision.

One woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say she's alive because she was wearing her seat belt.
