Miranda Lambert delivered a pitch-perfect performance of "If I Was a Cowboy" at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11). The segment took place on an outdoor stage on Nashville's Lower Broadway.

Wearing a custom Nudie-esque suit complete with bright green fringe and embroidered desert scenes, Lambert breezed through "If I Was a Cowboy," the lead single from her upcoming album Palomino, due out April 29.

It was a victorious moment for her — she won the CMT Award for Female Video of the Year for the same song earlier in the night.

Lambert's performance followed an introduction from several castmembers of Netflix's Queer Eye, including Karamo Brown, Tan France, Bobby Berk and Antoni Porowski. Lambert wrote and recorded the LGBTQ+ inclusive anthem "Y'All Means All" for the show's sixth season, which was filmed in her home state of Texas.

"I feel like I didn’t realize I wasn’t helping by not saying more," Lambert explains of her newfound role as a visible ally to the community in an interview with Rolling Stone this spring. "I want to be a part of a wave of change, and I'm learning every single day."

"I have always been firm on never letting politics into my professional life. ... But I do think if you have a platform like we do as musicians we should stand up for things we believe in," she continues. "I am super-excited that I can be supportive of the LGBTQ community, and I hope I can be a voice that helps people to be accepting and open-minded about all kinds of things."

This year's CMT Awards broadcast live from Nashville, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This was notably the first year that the awards ceremony has been picked up by a major network.
