Millinocket Native Killed In New Mexico Robbery
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Millinocket man during a gas station robbery.
62-year-old Michael Pelkey was originally from Millinocket, Maine, but had been living in New Mexico in recent years. On February 11th, he was working at the Smith's Fuel Center gas station, a job he'd held for twelve years, when a man armed with a handgun and wearing a bandanna over his face walked in and demanded money. According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Pelkey followed the suspect outside and the two got into an argument. At some point, he was shot by the suspect and died on the way to the hospital.
New Mexico State Police say they're not sure, at this point, who fired the fatal shot. Arrested are 30-year-old Morgan Stacey Ramirez, 46-year-old Donald Gregory, 30-year-old Veronica Martinez, 48-year-old Eileen Sandoval, 29-year-old Misty Nevarez, 29-year-old Daniel Gonzales, and 30-year-old Daniel 'DJ' Martinez. All the suspects are charged with first degree murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence.
