A man from Mexico, Maine was hospitalized after being shot by a police officer.

Where Did This Happen?

Mexico Police Chief Roy Hodsdon says the incident happened on Thursday night. Officers from Mexico and Rumford Police Departments responded to a domestic violence disturbance call at 87 Roxbury Road in Mexico just before 11:00.

How Badly Was the Person Hurt?

When officers arrived, Chief Hodsdon says they were met by an armed male subject. The details of the ensuing altercation have not been released but Daniel Tibbetts, 22, of Mexico sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance. Tibbetts was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland and is expected to survive.

Who Was the Officer Involved in the Shooting?

As a result of the shooting, Mexico Police Officer Dustin Broughton has been placed on administrative leave. This is standard procedure for any police-involved shooting. The case is now under investigation by the Maine Attorney General's Office.
