The Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Departments say the accident happened at approximately 5:14 Wednesday evening, on Route 102, located in the village of Somesville. Witnesses say a Honda Accord driven by Caleb Cooperrider, 35 of Croton, Ohio, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Nissan Rogue driven by Mark O'Brien, 35 of Staten Island, New York. O'Brien's vehicle was thrown off the roadway before coming to rest in a ditch. Debris from the collision struck a northbound Honda CR-V, being driven by Diana Lindquist, 65 of Southwest Harbor.

O'Brien and his passenger both suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Cooperrider was taken from the scene by LifeFlight with serious injuries. No one else was hurt.
