A Topsfield man, who was snow blowing the end of his driveway, was struck and killed by a passing motorist on Tuesday evening.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says 59-year-old Edgar Rhoades was killed instantly. He was clearing the end of his driveway at around 5:30 when the accident happened.

State Police Corporal Micah Perkins responded to the crash and determined that the driver of a 2001 GMC Jimmy lost control of the vehicle on snow covered Route 1 as it was traveling north. The driver of the truck, 46-year-old John Moholland of Princeton, was checked for shoulder pain and released by EMS at the scene. There was also a female passenger in the vehicle who wasn't hurt. Police say both people were wearing seatbelts.

It was snowing at the time of the accident and police say weather and road conditions will be factors. Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi, Trooper Chad Lindsey, Indian Township Fire and Rescue, along with Calais Fire/EMS also responded.
