Man Charged with Murdering Two in Turner Home

A Turner man faces two counts of murder after police say he killed a man and a woman early Friday morning.

Patrick Maher, 24, of Turner, was found and arrested inside the home on Knight Farm Road in Turner where the killings took place. The victims have been identified as Troy Varney, 52, and Dulsie Varney, 48.

Police received a report of a home invasion with possible gunshots just after 1:30 a.m., according to a news release. When police arrived on scene they found a male unresponsive on the floor and a female in medical distress. Both male and female victims later died at the hospital.

Maher was taken to Androscoggin County Jail.

The Lewiston Sun Journal is reporting that Maher had rented a room from the couple.

Police say they are confident there is non ongoing risk to the public.
