A Massachusetts man is facing drug trafficking charges after a bag of suspected crack cocaine allegedly fell from his cap.

Sergeant Wade Betters says a vehicle in which 35-year-old Jerry Pierre-Francois of Brockton, Massachusetts was riding was stopped just after 2:00 Sunday morning. Bangor Police wanted to question the occupants about an earlier incident at a local bar.

Pierre-Francois was talking with an officer when he lifted his ball cap and a bag of suspected cocaine allegedly fell to the ground. He denied the drugs were his and claimed that someone else had thrown them down. The officers took Pierre-Francois into custody and he denied having any contraband.

A more thorough search was conducted when the man was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, and officials seized over $1,500 in cash, some illegal pills, and a few more bags of suspected cocaine. The bags matched the one which allegedly fell from his ball cap during the traffic stop.  Pierre-Francois has prior drug convictions and so was charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs and with Trafficking in Prison Contraband. His bail is set at $20,000.
