Maine’s largest town by land area is Allagash, located in Aroostook County and covering an impressive 128.6 square miles—more than any other town, city, or municipality in the state.

It’s the only town in Maine with over 100 square miles of land and sits along the Allagash River in the remote North Maine Woods region.

Despite its size, Allagash had just 237 residents as of the 2020 census, with a total area (including water) of 131.42 square miles.
