A Maine man is facing charges in New Hampshire after driving the wrong way on the interstate while allegedly intoxicated.

Kittery Maine Man Arrested in Greenland, New Hampshire

Robert Cresta, 70, of Kittery, Maine was arrested on Friday, March 21st in Greenland, New Hampshire. He's charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, and felony counts of reckless conduct and possession of a controlled drug.

New Hampshire State Police Say the Maine Man Crossed the Median in Hampton

New Hampshire State Police received reports of a wrong-way driver traveling erratically on I-95 northbound, at the Hampton Toll Plaza just after 11:00 Friday morning. Officials say that once the driver passed the tolls, he crossed the center median and continued northbound in the southbound travel lanes.

Troopers used several tactics to stop the Jeep Cherokee that was now traveling against traffic, including tire deflation devices, and cruiser positioning. These endeavors failed, however, and the Jeep continued, but at a reduced speed, against traffic, in the high-speed breakdown lane.

Maine Man's Vehicle Was Finally Stopped in Greenland After a Slow-Speed Collision

When the Jeep arrived at an area where the police had halted the opposite traffic, a New Hampshire State Trooper decided to use their cruiser to stop the Jeep. The driver stopped, but not before swerving and causing a minor slow-speed collision with two civilian vehicles.

No one was hurt in this incident.

Cresta was arrested and taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for precautionary treatment. After being booked on several charges, Mr. Cresta was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth District Court on April 9, 2025.
