The student-athletes at this university in Maine aren’t just fantastic at their sports—they’re excelling in the classroom as well!

We take our sports seriously here in Maine, but we also take just as much pride in what happens off the field and court. And judging by the records being broken, it’s clear we’ve got some real smarties in the Pine Tree State!
Alright, now that we’ve covered that, which school in Maine are we talking about with student-athletes breaking records?
According to the University of Maine, Black Bear student-athletes set a record-high department GPA of 3.45 for the 2024 fall semester, with 16 of 17 varsity teams earning a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Additionally, on top of the collective team success, 78 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA for the term.
Ten teams surpassed a 3.50 GPA, led by men's cross country (3.73) and a three-way tie at 3.72 for women's basketball, women's cross country, and women's soccer. Nine programs set or tied their highest fall semester GPA since 1988, including field hockey, baseball, football, and multiple track & field teams.
Once again, University of Maine student-athletes have raised the bar, setting a new academic record in the fall of 2024.
They achieved a department-best 3.45 GPA, the highest ever recorded for the school’s athletic programs. Nearly every varsity team contributed to this milestone by earning at least a 3.0 GPA, highlighting their dedication to both sports and academics.
That’s right—the University of Maine Black Bears are setting new records when it comes to their collective GPAs!
