There are several reasons why you shouldn’t use the top of your fridge as storage.
The kitchen gets hectic, especially when prepping for meals. Using the top of your fridge as a catch-all can lead to accidents, and accidents can lead to messed-up ventilation, which can spoil your food, waste your money, and, in turn, waste your time.
According to Croma, it could be a safety hazard to put things on top of your refrigerator. The side walls and the top of the refrigerator tend to be warmer than the front doors and, obviously, the inside. The refrigeration cycle and circulation are the causes of this. Excess heat is released on the top of the unit, and that is one of the main reasons why it is not advised to keep something over the refrigerator.
Another, more obvious reason not to put things, especially the following items, on top of your refrigerator is that generally, refrigerators are tall, and when things fall from tall spots, they’re probably going to break. This is especially dangerous if whatever falls is made of glass or has glass that can shatter and spread.
