A Cape Elizabeth man called police when he returned home from work to find his house had been cleaned.

Police responded to a burglary call at the home off Shore Road on June 19th. WMTW-TV reports the homeowner had left his door unlocked for a repair person who was scheduled to visit the residence. But when he got home later in the day, he realized something was amiss. His house was extremely clean. A load of his laundry had even been washed and folded.

As it turned out, it was all a big mistake. A cleaning company had been hired to clean a nearby short-term rental house, and arrived at the wrong address. Since the door was unlocked, they assumed they were at the correct residence and cleaned it, top to bottom.

Police say nothing was taken and no charges were filed.
