
Maine Gamer Accused of Making Online Threats to a Florida Family
A Pittsfield, Maine man is facing charges for allegedly making violent threats against a Florida XBox gamer and their family.
Florida Officials Say the Investigation into the Online Threats Started in 2022
James Maynard, 32, of Pittsfield, Maine is charged with written or electronic threats to kill.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office in Florida says the investigation into Maynard began in November 2022, when their detectives began investigating a series of threats reported by a Palm Coast resident.
Officials Say the Suspect Allegedly Threatened to Make the Victim's Family Disappear
The victim, who officials say was a juvenile at the time, told investigators that an unknown person who was using an anonymous Xbox gamertag had sent multiple messages that allegedly contained violent threats. The youth told the sheriff's office that the person had threatened to kill them, burn their house down, and make their parents disappear.

It wasn't the first time the juvenile said they had received threats from the antagonist, who had allegedly sent similar threats under a different Xbox gamertag in July 2022.
Following the inital threats, the victim tried to block the suspect, but they said the person allegedly altered their profile over and over to continue the harassment. The victim said they had never met the person but they had interacted with each other through Xbox and Snapchat.

Florida Officials Worked With Maine Officials to Take the Suspect Into Custody
Detectives identified James Maynard of Maine in January 2025 as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. On April 25, 2025, they traveled to Maine and worked with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office to locate the 32-year-old and interview him.
He was arrested on the outstanding fugitive warrant and transported ot the Kennebec County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Florida.
