It's all about the lobsters this week, as hungry visitors flock to Rockland for the Maine Lobster Festival.

If you've never been to the festival, it's a lot more than crustaceans boiling in a pot. There's a big parade on Saturday, complete with marching bands and floats. Kids and some brave (or foolish) adults attempt to run across a string of lobster traps in the Great International Lobster Crate Race, which is actually pretty exciting. I don't know how they do it. I'd be swimming with the lobsters, if I tried to do it. And then there's the Maine Sea Goddess Coronation, and the road race, fun run/walk. Carnival games and rides, and activities for the kids round out the family-friendly event.

Of course, the festival features plenty of lobsters, cooked a variety of ways. You can get yours boiled, or in a lobster salad roll. If you prefer, there's the lobster mac 'n cheese, lobster bisque...and the menu goes on and on. While I was in Nova Scotia recently, I tried some interesting lobster dishes, including creamed lobster on toast. Maybe they should add that next year.

You can find the complete schedule of events on the Maine Lobster Festival website. Grab your bib and your crackers and head to Rockland for some delicious family fun this weekend.
