So, given all of that, what makes one city better for beer lovers than another? And what criteria is this based on?
Chowhound’s recent report, ‘12 US Cities Every Beer Lover Should Visit,’ was created with input from four beer experts—a drinks writer, a veteran beer blogger, a brewery owner and beer writer, and a certified cicerone—each offering perspectives from different regions of the country. Okay, with that cleared up, which city in Maine was recently named among the top 12 for beer lovers in the country?
According to Chowhound and their recent report, ‘12 US Cities Every Beer Lover Should Visit’ the city in Maine that made the list was Portland—alongside the other Portland. Chowhound had the following to say about their selection:
Maine is not just about its lobster rolls. Its most populous city, Portland (which has less than 70,000 residents), also has a rather impressive beer scene that does not lose against the other Portland.
Portland has earned its reputation as a top beer destination with nationally recognized breweries like Allagash.
Chowhound continues that the city also offers innovative spots like Oxbow and Bissell Brothers, along with unique taprooms such as the woman-owned Belleflower. Its walkability makes it easy for travelers to enjoy everything from hazy IPAs to farmhouse ales and lagers, all within just minutes of each other.

And there you have it! Maine’s beer scene is certainly unique, and while Portland doesn’t deserve all the credit, it’s definitely a great spot for beer lovers.
