A Madison woman is facing charges after allegedly hitting a family member in the head with an aluminum bat.

Police were called to a residence on the Lakewood Road in Madison on the 4th of July to a report of an argument. When they arrived, they found a woman with a severe head injury, who was then transported to a local hospital.

27-year-old Stephanie Wade was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated criminal mischief. Police told the Morning Sentinel that Wade had allegedly hit her cousin in the head with a baseball bat during the altercation that occurred during a combined 4th of July and birthday celebration with their family.

Bail was set at $5,000 during Wade's first court appearance on Monday, with conditions to include having no contact with the victim. She remains in the Somerset County Jail and is expected to appear in court again in August.
