Suspect In Custody After 22-Hour Standoff In Lincoln
A man who kept law enforcement at bay in Lincoln for 22 hours is in custody and the overnight standoff is over.
WVII-TV reports William Bradbury was taken into custody this morning and that no injuries have been reported. The man had retreated to his home when police arrived to serve him with a warrant for his arrest and, since it was believed that he had firearms at the residence, the standoff began. Police say the warrant was for sexual abuse of a minor.
The incident started when Lincoln police escorted a woman to pick up some of her belongings from the West Broadway home and, while they were there, attempted to serve Bradbury with the warrant. There are few details about what happened during that visit, but police say they felt that officers, and the woman, were in danger and so they fell back and called for help from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.
A stretch of Route 2, near the scene of the standoff, was closed overnight as police dealt with the situation.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
