Police in Maine are investigating the death of a 4-year-old child who suffered a gunshot wound.

Lewiston Maine Police Learned of the Injured Child Saturday Morning

Officials haven't released any information about the child, including their name.

Lewiston Police received a 911 call just before 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 for a four-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head. Rescue crews responded to apartment number two at 93 Pierce Street in Lewiston.

Maine Officials Say an Autopsy Will Determine Cause and Manner of Death

The child was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where they were prounounced deceased at 7:08 a.m. They were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

The 4-Year-Old's Death is Under Investigation by Maine Police

An investigation into the death is being conducted by the Lewiston Police and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South. The Department of Health and Human Services was also notified, which is protocol when a child dies in a home.
