A man who was injured during a huge brawl at Kennedy Park in Lewiston has died of his injuries.

WMTW-TV reports that 38-year-old Donald Giusti of Lewiston passed away Friday in a local hospital where he was taken after being badly beaten during a large fight. There's no word, so far, on what prompted the confrontation or how Giusti became involved, but police say the brawl included as many as two dozen teens and preteens, and three adult males. Friends have described Giusti as someone who would do anything for anyone.

Lewiston's mayor Shane Bouchard said in a statement that the city's staff, elected officials and police are working to address recent violence in the city. He went on to say that he's asked for the city's administrator and chief of police to give a briefing to the city council prior to the public comment period at Tuesday night's city council meeting to update the public on safety measures are being put in place.

On Sunday, members of Lewiston's immigrant community stood outside City Hall, calling for peace. Speakers at the gathering talked about the importance of being confident about walking at night without fearing for their lives, and asking all Lewiston residents to come together to put an end to the violence.
