A man accused of killing his girlfriend inside their Jay home made his first court appearance Thursday.

James Sweeney is accused in the death Wendy Douglass, whose body was discovered inside the couple's Jewell St. home.

According to the State Medical Examiner's Office, Douglass died of blunt force head trauma.

Prosecutors said the woman was killed as she slept, and a baseball bat that was covered in blood was found inside the residence.

WGME reports that Sweeney turned himself in Tuesday morning at the Androscoggin County Jail.

According to court documents, officers found a note on the door of the couple's home, saying "Wendy I love you. You ruin my love. I already know you cheat on me. You lie lie lie a lot. Ted”
