Former New England Patriot and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez was found dead, hanging from a bed sheet in his cell this morning, according to various news sources.

The stories quote a Department of Corrections official that he was found at 3:05AM by officials, dead of an apparent suicide, hanging by a bed sheet attached to a window in his cell at Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.

The former Patriot tight end was appealing a life sentence of murder in the death of former friend Odin Lloyd in June of 2013.  This past Friday Hernandez, 27, was acquitted in the double-slaying of two men in a drive-by shooting in 2012 in the South End of Boston.

In an interview this past week, New England Patriot coach Bill Belichick called it a "tragedy" when asked about the fate of Hernandez.

No suicide note has been found at this point.
