Maine and all of New England has been in a holding pattern for the last couple months when it comes to tumultuous weather. Fall has been incredibly calm as well as mild.

Winter lovers have even been nervous thanks to some of the long range predictions for Maine. The National Weather Service believes that Maine will see another warmer winter with less snow likely than yearly averages.

Last winter, Maine had to wait until January to get its first real taste of substantial snow. It appears Mother Nature may not take quite as long this time around.

According to WGME, a nor'easter is brewing for the holiday week. Because we haven't hit the winter solstice and the temperatures still remain mild, this particular nor'easter is far more likely to bring heavy rain and wind versus the traditional snowfall.

Based on its expected arrival time, the storm would be plenty dangerous. If it holds as a nor'easter, forecast models have it arriving in Maine sometime during Thanksgiving Day. The storm even would last through the overnight hours and affect travel on Black Friday as well.

Coastal areas of Maine would see steady rainfall and powerful wind gusts that could be damaging. The worst case for the coastal areas would a mix of rain and ice.

Inland, especially in the mountains, would likely see their first tangible snowfall and accumulation. Weeks before winter actually kicks in.

The most widely used forecast models, the EURO as well as the GFS, have not agreed yet on the storm's path or power. That will become more clear in the 48 hours or so. Some models have the majority of the storm staying off the coast of Maine. That would lessen the overall impacts and likely me no snow for the mountains.
