Forbes Gives Five-Star Rating to Just One Maine Hospital

Each and every year, Forbes closes out the year by releasing several different lists.

Some of those annual lists include best restaurants, best places to travel, best hotels as well as best colleges.

But there's another annual list that always gets a lot of attention. It's Forbes annual list for top hospitals in America, giving ratings to hospitals across the country. For those that take their health and care seriously, it's a good barometer.

Maine as a whole has struggled on the Forbes lists in recent years. But for 2025, at least one Maine hospital received the coveted five-star rating.

Four hospitals in Maine made the Forbes 2025 Best Hospitals list but only one received the highest mark of five-stars.

That would be Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.

EMMC received an overall rating of five-stars thanks to strong data in patient outcomes as well as consumer value. EMMC received four stars for best practices but only a three stars for patient experience at the hospital.

Three Other Maine Hospitals Given Four-Star Rating By Forbes

While EMMC's five-star rating sets it apart for excellent, three other Maine hospitals received a very respectable four-star rating from Forbes.

That would include Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, which just missed an overall five-star rating. The hospital received five-star marks in both the best practices and patient experiences categories which led all hospitals in the state.

MaineGeneral in Augusta also received a four-star rating with strong marks in both patient outcomes as well as patient experience.

The final hospital to get a four-star rating was St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Just like MaineGeneral, St. Mary's received four-stars in both the patient outcomes and patient experience categories.
