What’s Going Into The Old Margaritas Building In Orono, Maine?
People were stunned this past January, when the news hit that Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, which had occupied the corner of a commercial building on Orono's Mill Street for 40 years, abruptly closed its doors for good.
After months on the market, it looks like there might be some movement soon on getting something else into that building.
According to Orono Town Manager Clint Deschene, the details, so far, are sparse and there's no word yet on who might be buying it, only that someone is in talks to do so.
"There are a lot of conversations but it is listed as 'sale pending' online. We are hoping to learn who the buyer is and learn more about any plans."
The real estate website, MaineListings.com, has listed the building at 15 Mill Street as "under contract". The description says that while the old decor of the building as been removed, the practical tools someone would need to run it as a restaurant once more, were left in place.
"All of the Mexican furniture will be removed. All of the restaurant equipment will remain. There is a large parking lot behind the building that is a municipal parking lot. This is a great opportunity to own a building in downtown Orono that can continue as a restaurant. "

With neighbors like Pat's Pizza, The Tacorita, The Black Bear Microbrewery, Woodman's, The Family Dog, and the Nest cafe, whatever business moves into that space will have plenty of foot traffic, whether from the University of Maine students or Orono residents.
The listing price of the property is $515,400.
