Kennebec County Man, Who Fell In Road, Accidentally Killed By Motorist
State Police are looking into the details surrounding the death of a 76-year-old man from Readfield Tuesday evening.
Shannon Moss, spokesperson with the Maine Department of Public Safety, says the initial report came into dispatchers in Kennebec County, as an accident involving a pedestrian and a truck. State Police Troopers made their way to the scene, along with members of the Readfield Fire Department and Winthrop EMS just after 6 PM, just after sunset.
"The Initial investigation indicates 76-year-old Andrews Tolman of Readfield was walking across Main Street after leaving the Readfield Historical Society when he tripped and fell in the eastbound lane. The driver of a 2021 Ram 5500 was traveling in the eastbound lane at the time and did not see Mr. Tolman lying in the road, resulting in Mr. Tolman being struck and killed."
Moss says State Police do not suspect that speed or alcohol to be factors in this particular crash.
State Police say the incident is still being investigated.
