Maine Maritime Museum Gets Ready To Get Creepy Next Month

Some things are worth going on a little road trip for. While some folks like to head to Salem to catch some witch vibes for the Halloween season, you don't have to go that far to be creeped out by history. There's a place, a little close to home, that promises some spooky fun this fall.

The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is positioned right on the Kennebec River. It helps give people a glimpse into the history and stories surrounding what's gone on through the years in the many waterways throughout the state.

With both indoor and outdoor exhibits, and even some hands-on exhibits, the Maine Maritime Museum also features an incredible immersive lighthouse exhibit that you have to experience for yourself.

"As active stewards and educators of history and culture, of our historic site, and of our collections, we strive to inspire an ever-growing audience to experience the local, regional, and global stories of Maine."

But this October, they'll be turning off the lights, and up the suspense, as they offer guided flashlight tours of the shipyard, an experience not many have been able to have before.

The "Dead Reckoning: Shipyard Death and Disturbances" tours are scheduled to start on Thursday, October 17th, and run every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through the rest of October.

According to their Facebook event page, those who dare to take the tour will learn about some of the shipyard's creepier history.

"This one-hour, interactive guided flashlight tour will bring you through the museum’s historic shipyard and restricted spaces not usually open to the public. On this tour, visitors will hear the harrowing true stories of shipyard deaths, macabre injuries, and the UNEXPLAINED HAUNTINGS that occurred in the same spaces in which you stand…in the dark. Includes a complimentary non-alcoholic hot cider."
