Maine Only has a Single Location for This Top 5 Breakfast Chain

Considering how many restaurants Maine has, where's all the breakfast?

This has been a bone of contention of mine for a super long time. Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, but I feel like in the restaurant world, breakfast spots are the most overlooked. Maybe fancy chefs feel like they can't really re-invent breakfast, so they don't bother.

Although to be fair, I suppose breakfast spots will always do the lion's share of their business on the weekends. Whereas during the week, it's harder for folks to carve out the time to go out for the morning meal. So it's no surprise that around the country, other states take breakfast very seriously. We try to. Kinda...

Out of the Top 5 spots in the US, Maine has one location... For one of them.

According to Mashed.com, there are 28 national chains that take breakfast seriously. Oddly enough, we do have two locations for the chains at the very bottom of the list, which is Denny's and Tim Horton's. Those we have plenty of around Maine. There aren't as many Denny's and Timmy Ho-Ho's as there used to be, but we got 'em.

On the other hand, the #2 most popular national breakfast chain is Cracker Barrel. Maine has a single Cracker Barrel location near the Maine Mall in South Portland. Just one. I think Cracker Barrel would do tons of business in other areas around Maine, but that's it so far.

Half these places, I've never even heard of.

All the others that made the list don't even exist in Maine. In fact, I've barely heard of them in all of New England. On the same list, Waffle House was #1 in all of America. I don't believe there's a single on in New England is there? How's that possible? Maine misses out on all the good stuff.

No Krispy Kreme, no Waffle House, no White Castle... Why doesn't anybody want to come up this way? Our money is just as good as everyone else's. It's crazy to think, of the most popular breakfast chains in all of America, we have one location, for just one of them. Come on Big Breakfast! Come to Maine and take our money!
